What configuration on shaker screens are there?

Based on wire mesh hole, there are 3 main configuration. Such as square opening screen cloth, oblong hole wire mesh, and combine 2 pattern together.

Details including 2 or 3 layers wire cloth are with square hole, 1 supporting layer is with square hole and the other 1 or 2 layers are with oblong hole; or all of 3 layers cloth are with oblong opening

Based on frame, there are steel frame and composite frame. Difference between them including appearance, the manufacture procedure, and so on

Based on bonding type, there are hook strap type and framed screen. One type is bonded on sheet with 2 sides hook, the other type is bonded on sheet welded with frame

The difference among different configured screen

Checking the wire mesh configuration, we'll find oblong hole configuration hold coarser cut point. For example, if the market grade 100mesh, we use square hole cloth with common wire the cut point may be 140 microns. If we use market grade oblong hole called 100mesh with common wire cloth, the cut point may be 250 microns

If we use square screen cloth sized 100 mesh but with finer wire, the cut point may be 150 microns, if the wire mesh woven with extra fine wire but sized 100 mesh, the cut point maybe 165microns

So, when we use the extra fine wire, screen will help to get larger opening and higher filtration efficiency

What is your preference of screen configuration?

Configuration on shaker screens difference lead different screen performance. Thus lead different quality grade. Improper configuration or selection will lead screen worn easily.

Some users prefer longer life to better filtration efficiency, while some users prefer larger conductance to accurate cut point.

Usually, we use S.S304 screen with extra fine diameter. When we fabricate the API 230 or finer screen, the material will be S.S316 even 316L. But according to clients' preference, we supply all screen cloth as S.S316 or 316L.

Some clients pay more attention on conductance, while others pay more attention on screen life, the others may prefer just lower price product. Per different clients' demand, we'll configure screens accordingly. For example, we can use screen with thicker diameter for longer life. We also can use 3 layers screen with super fine wire for more accurate cut point. If we use the rectangular screen, the conductance will be much higher

Different price on different shaker screen configuration

This depends on screen mesh size, material you prefer, any requirement or special request. The price level differs from each other as the material and manufacture procedure are different. Some clients told me many supplier sell screens at USD30-60 per panel. Ours are sold at USD50-USD120 per panel. Based on screen model and mesh size

Here, we are talking about configuration on shaker screen cloth. Including the screen mesh size, the mesh type, the wire diameter. We know screen cloth with same mesh but different wire diameter will lead different conductance and the non blanked area

Besides the mesh size and wire diameter, the screen openings shape will affect the conductance and non blanked area as well. Usually, there are square hole screen cloth and rectangular hole screen

Different manufacturers will produce shaker screen with various screen configuration. Some will put screen with rectangular holes and square hole screen, some will put all layers screen with square holes, also some put all layers wire mesh with rectangular hole

Why so many different configuration?

When we face different shale shaker, different drilling mud or well drilling condition, the different shaker screen configuration will provide user different efficiency and function. For example, the rectangular hole will give us more effective filtration area so lead higher efficiency

If the screen with thicker wire than same mesh screen, user will definitely have a longer life shaker screen. Even some manufacturer will put 4 layers wire mesh together for more durable and anti-abrasion.

Aipu shaker screens are conform to API RP13C. The screens from API 60 are 3 layered. We configure screen with rectangular and square hole combination. The conductance and non blanked area have been tested by professional test center of API

Screen API designation is the API size or number with related cut point and NBA, etc. The API number of shaker screen is decided by many issues. The mesh type, configuration, etc.

Screen API designation

There are wide range API Code. From API 6 to API 500. The separation point or D100 cut point is from 22.5~3675 microns.  We have to realize, the shaker screen API designation is different with mesh size or mesh number

For example, one of our client told us, they ever bought shaker screens from another supplier sized 80 mesh and they said it was API 80 more or less. However, they found the shaker efficiency and screen filtration performance is not same as their former API 80 screen. Then they brought one panel of screen to the lab for API number test. It was API 140!

Actually, the latest shaker screen API code is to avoid confusion for clients' selection on screen replacement. The API consisted not only mesh size, but also other factors

Mesh type of screen

Mesh type of shaker screen including single configuration, dual configuration. That means, we have different mesh type configuration. Such as all layered screen are oblong hole, all layered screen are square hole, and some of them will be configured as square-oblong-square.

Besides the mesh type, there are screen layers and cloth diameter affecting whole screens API number and other designation

Other issues affecting API designation

Complete screen API designation including API size, D100 cut point, non blanked area, conductance. Then, we'll have other factors affecting API designation. For example, the same screen cloth configuration on 48x30 series screen and Cobra series screen the non blanked area will be different.

And if we utilized same wire cloth configuration on flat and corrugated screen the conductance and NBA will be differing as well. So, the panels dimension, mesh, type will affect API designation as well
