Auger feeders are transfer devices. We usually use them to deliver materials to a certain place from a discharge of equipment. Such as transfer solid or cutting from shaker discharge to the waste management unit or system.
Auger feeders general information
Auger feeders are also referred to screw conveyors. We make them including conveyor, conveyor channel, motor, gearbox, cover, control panel(optional). We know the motor is a tool to transfer energy to the equipment. On the auger feeder, the motor is connecting with the gearbox. While, gearbox provide the proper speed under a certain reduction ratio. And the gearbox is connecting with a screw conveyor. Then the conveyor rotates and push the materials to the discharge port on the auger feeder.
We use auger feeders for different applications. Such as waste management, oil sludge treatment, zero discharge processing, and so on. The materials including drilling mud waste, oil sludge, etc. And the materials may be liquid, or solid or a mixture of both.
Different designs of feeders
As per the connection way, there are direct drive or overhead drive, or the coupling between motor and gearbox. If we consider the installation or layout, there are horizontal at zero degree and incline at a certain degree cater for practical working conditions.
When we consider the details of design, there are different types of gearboxes. Such as the helical worm and the helical bevel, cycloidal reducer, as well as planetary reducer. Furthermore, the motor and gearbox output direction are different, too.
For the speed of feeders, the factors affecting it including motor speed, the reducer reduction ratio. For example, we calculate convey capacity of the auger feeder and derive the proper speed is 58rpm. While motor speed is 1800rpm, then the ratio should be 1800/58≈31:1
Some auger feeders are just one section assembly, while, some feeders including power section, and extending section. For example, we just delivered auger feeders long 13m(total length including motor and reducer). These feeders including 3 sections. That means each section is about 4m.
Other design differences including shaft, cover, control panel, support leg. Shaft difference means some conveyors don’t hold the central shaft, we call them shaftless conveyors, while some hold shaft. The cover difference is the pattern and material. We design some conveyors with plates or grating. And some grating is galvanized, some are fibreglass ones. Difference of control panel including available or not, and fixed speed or VFD. Support legs are the supporting frame under the U channel of the auger feeder.
The customized design of the conveyor including the electrical system, color, the emergency stop when the cover is open.
Model number or sizes of screw conveyors
We usually name feeders according to conveyor diameter. For example, if the conveyor diameter is 400mm, we call it APLS400. And we’ll indicate detailed specifications or parameters during the quotation and on orders. Such as the length, the power, the rotation speed, transfer capacity, etc.
The popular model of screw conveyor at Aipu including APLS300, APLS350, APLS400, APLS450. Some clients prefer horizontal and helical bevel types. They will install the feeders on their platform or tanks. Besides the standard models of conveyors, Aipu provides customization services. Please feel free to contact us if you have a demand or interest.
Spare parts of the auger feeder
Spare parts here mean the components we may need during the whole life of the feeder. For example, the gearbox, it’s not wearing part but it’s a spare part. While the bearings and oil seals are the wearing parts of the gearbox or the whole auger feeder.
So, what are the spare parts of the auger feeder? There are motor, gearbox, couplings, bushes for coupling bolt, the belt(if overhead drive), bearings, seals, the wearing plate between conveyor impeller and U channel. Bearings including gearbox internal ones and bearings between different conveyor sections.
Tips to operate screw conveyors legally
First of all, read and obey the user manual carefully. Including operation and maintenance. According to the user manual, we can find the general and standard instructions. We can find the answers to normal questions.
During our operation, let the special person or trained people run the equipment. Pay attention to rated specifications and check the working performance regularly to find out if any failure. Solve problems instantly to avoid further damage or injury. Repair equipment in time or replace the worn parts at once for optimal performance. Of course, pay attention to shutting off the feeder and warning by marking and locking the area.
Some standard and simple maintenance including lubrication on bearings (on gearbox and section end). Also, clean the feeders after every operation.
If you think professional, please contact the supplier or manufacturer to help get the solutions if there is a problem or question. This is a convenient and assured method. Do you need further details? Are you in demand of auger feeder? Please just feel free to contact Aipu Solids Control.
